MARSHALL, Texas – Next week marks the beginning of a very special week for NCAA Division III as they promote D3 Week at their campuses. East Texas Baptist University has several items planned for the week to promote their student-athletes, show service to the community, and honor faculty.
The week will start off on Monday in chapel as the student-athletes will be recognized for their service as an athlete. On each day next week, there will be a special podcast on www.etbusports.com recognizing five different ETBU athletes and how ETBU has affected them as student-athletes.
The athletes will also be having a canned food drive and clothing drive all week long, too. The canned goods collected will be donated to the food pantry at Mission Marshall and the clothes to the Clothes Closet in Marshall. The ETBU cross country team will take the clothes and sort them on Thursday at the Clothes Closet.
On Friday, ETBU will recognize faculty at the baseball and softball games. There will be a cook out before the games and the faculty will receive t-shirts from the student-athletes before the games. The student-athletes will have to give a t-shirt to the faculty person they have been selected to talk to and get to know that professor. The faculty will then be able to go out onto the field for the national anthem and stand with the team on the foul line.
The ETBU SAAC will also be collecting canned goods on Friday and Saturday for the American Southwest Conference’s “Make A Change” competition.
On Saturday, the softball team will have a Military Appreciation Day recognizing all military.
