JACKSON, Miss. – Three players led East Texas Baptist University with double figures but their shooting wasn’t enough as Millsaps College came back from 10-points down canning a buzzer-beating shot for the win, 70-69, in the season opener for the Tigers.  ETBU led by eight points with just over a minute to go, 69-61, but couldn’t hold off the Majors final surge after leading most of the game.

Justin Felicia earned his second career double-double leading ETBU with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Erby Thompson hit three three-pointers for 12 points and Monty Gray had 10 points.  Jamil Samuel, in his first game for ETBU, added 10 rebounds, eight points, and three blocks.  Two players for Millsaps College had 17 points in Ryan Berger and Ronnie Frebis.

ETBU dominated the entire game leading by as much as 13 in the second half.  They out rebounded Millsaps, 44-21, but turned the ball over 16 times.  They finished shooting 48% from the floor, 40% from the three-point line, and 60% from the line.  Millsaps made 44% of their shots, shot 42% from the arc, and 70% from the foul line.

Millsaps took their first lead of the game until midway through the first half, 2-0, to start the game.  Samuel tied it up at two and ETBU was off to the races on a 17-4 run for an 11-point lead, 17-6.  That was the largest first-half lead for ETBU at the 14:19 mark.  Millsaps responded with a 20-6 run in nine minutes to take a one-point lead, 24-23.  In the final five minutes, ETBU poured out a 16-5 run for a 10-point halftime lead, 39-29.  C.J. Jones swooshed in a three-pointer with four seconds left to put the lead at 10.

Leading the entire second half until the buzzer beating shot, ETBU took a 13-point lead on a Thompson free throw with 14:52 left in the game.  ETBU kept their distance and had an eight point lead with just over two minutes to go before Millsaps made a magical run for the win.

ETBU next plays on Thursday, November 21st, in Shreveport, La., against Centenary College at 7:00 p.m.
