RICHARDSON, Texas – Four men’s basketball players from East Texas Baptist University have received an award from the American Southwest Conference for their play this year. Jamil Samuel, Erby Thompson, Tyler Day, and Dylan Augustine all were given an award.
Samuel was voted onto the All-ASC third-team and the defensive team for his play. He averaged 10.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and finished the year with a double-double against Texas-Dallas. In the ASC Tournament game, he posted 19 points and 15 rebounds for his career high. In the ASC, he was second in blocks (54), fifth in rebounding, and eighth in field goal percentage (.507).
Thompson made the All-ASC honorable-mention team and led the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game. He recorded 37 assists, 14 steals, and averaged 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot .400 from the floor, .383 from the three-point line, and .872 from the foul line. He lead the ASC in free throw percentage and was 10th in three-point field goals made (49) and 12th in three-point field goal percentage.
Making the ASC’s All-Freshmen team were Dylan Augustine and Tyler Day. Augustine led the ASC in three-point field goal percentage (.505) and was sixth in three-point goals made (53). He averaged 7.6 points per game, shot .500 from the floor, and was 18-of-20 from the free throw line (.900). He had 29 assists and 28 steals with 45 rebounds while playing in all 26 games and starting 17. Day averaged 6.2 points per game and made 37 three-pointers shooting .363 from the arc. He started one game and played in 25 games and had 30 assists and 14 steals.
ETBU finished the year with 11 wins and made their fourth ASC Tournament in the last five years.
