AUSTIN, Texas - In a rematch of their first meeting back in late November, five members of the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team had double-figures as ETBU collected another win in a 98-90 affair over Concordia. The win puts ETBU at 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference

ETBU was led by all three Jordans’ as Jordan Quillian and Jordan Grey had 20 points each. Grey added three steals and two assists in the game while the third Jordan of Jordan Gosey had 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Other huge contributors was Dylan Augustine, who tallied 18 points, and Tyler Day, who finished with 16 points. Wilbert Thomas led all players with 14 rebounds. CTX had two players score over 20 points as Rashad Coleman (23 points) and Joe Neal (21 points) led the way.

As a team, ETBU made more than they missed as they finished with 55.2% from the field leaving CTX to have 43.1% made field goals. From behind the three-point line, ETBU won that battle by shooting 38.5% to the 14.3% shot by CTX. ETBU also out rebounded CTX 44-33 and dished out 14 assists to three by Concordia. In addition, ETBU’s benched contributed to 50 of the team’s 98 points while 32 points came from the bench of CTX. The Tornadoes did have the edge in the free throw game as they made 75.6% from the line compared to ETBU’s 66.7%.

CTX jumped out to a 9-0 start before ETBU got their first basket. Threes by Augustine, Day, and layups by Gosey and Thomas gave ETBU a 12-11 lead that they would never relinquish. ETBU would build the largest lead of the first half to ten at 39-29 while the Tornadoes would cut the lead to as close as two. ETBU walked off the floor at halftime with an 51-43 lead.

The eight point half first half lead by the Tigers would be the difference as both teams scored 47 points in the second half. ETBU would build their largest lead of the game to 15 at 61-46. For the rest of the game, the Tornadoes struggled to cut the lead to single digits, as ETBU spent the majority of the half with a double-digit lead. CTX would cut the game as close as five points at 90-85 with 35 seconds left, but ETBU sealed the win with free throws as they left Austin with the win.

ETBU won’t be in action until the 29th and 30th of December in which they will play Texas Lutheran and Schreiner in that order. Both games will be at 1:30 pm and they will take place in Longview, Texas.
