LONGVIEW, Texas – In the first game of the LETU Classic, the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team defeated Texas Lutheran University 75-63. ETBU improves to 7-3 overall this season, while TLU falls to 6-4 overall, and drops its first game to an American Southwest Conference affiliate school.
The turning point in the game came halfway through the first half when TLU was up 20-13. ETBU used a 16-2 run to grab the lead from the Bulldogs. ETBU led TLU 37-31 at halftime. TLU would cut the ETBU lead to two points, 44-42, five minutes into the second half, and even brought the lead down to one point with just over 11 minutes to go. This was as close as TLU would get as ETBU knocked down free throws late to secure the third win in a row for the Tigers.
Zach Behr led the way for TLU with 19 points, and Matthew Gillette had 15 points. Gillete also led the Bulldogs with seven rebounds. TLU shot 38.3% from the floor in the loss.
ETBU was led by Robby Dooley with 14 points, Jordan Gosey with 13 points, and Landin Brown with 12 points. Jordan Quillian led ETBU with seven rebounds, and Dylan Augustine added six rebounds. ETBU shot 45.5% from the floor, and 90.9% from the free throw line.
ETBU will return to action tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. against Schreiner University. Schreiner is playing host LeTourneau University today.
