CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - After a close first half and leading by three with 11:50 to play, the East Texas Baptist men’s basketball team went on cruise control to take care of business with a 92-77 win over Ozarks. The win puts ETBU at 12-5 overall and 4-5 in the ASC Conference.
ETBU jumped from the start with five straight points from Will Thomas and Jay Mcknight. Ozark though would even the score and keep it tight until they went on a run to go ahead 21-11 for their largest lead of the game. ETBU would cut the deficit down to five with baskets by Jordan Gray and Clayton Stanley. However, the Eagles would increase their lead to nine at 34-25 following a jump shot by Josh Berard. ETBU would not falter as Dylan Augustine started to catch fire and help ETBU cut the lead to 35-32. Only a three by Tyler Day tied the score at 35. ETBU then reclaimed the lead for good on a layup by Robby Dooley and added insurance with Stanley’s next bucket. Though Ozarks would tie the game, ETBU’s Gray would put ETBU ahead with a layup at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 41-39 lead at halftime.
A quick three by Landin Brown and a layup by Quillian made it 46-39. It soon became a 52-44 lead before Ozarks used a run to cut the deficit to 53-50 with 11:50 to go. This would be the closest Ozarks would get before another three by Gray gave the Tigers a cushion to work with. From that point on, ETBU would outscore Ozarks 39-27 to pull away with the victory.
Four players for ETBU landed in double figures. Augustine led all scorers with 24 points, including six three’s on eight-of-11 shooting. Gray was second with 14 points, including four treys. Ozark also had four players in double figures including Dylan Grey, who poured in 23 points. Jace Richardson was second with 18 points.
