LONGVIEW, Texas – In an energetic atmosphere, the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team (12-6, 4-6) fell to the American Southwest Conference East Division leader LeTourneau University, 81-77. ETBU was within two with under 10 seconds to go but a foul turned the ball back over to LETU as they made two free throws to end the game.

ETBU jumped out to an early lead over LETU, leading 11-4 before the first media timeout. ETBU maintained a lead until after the third media timeout, when the LETU defense became stingy, and taking over the lead going into the half 41-34.

LETU and ETBU would trade shots back and forth to begin the second half, until ETBU roared back taking the lead 51-50 on a clutch corner three pointer from Landin Brown. LETU would regain the lead, before ETBU tied the game at 68-68 with 5:00 minutes remaining in the game. LETU would knock down a three on their next possession and take the lead over for the rest of the game. ETBU had the ball with a eight seconds remaining on the clock for a chance to tie, but was called for a charge to turn the ball over to LETU.

ETBU was led by Jordan Quillian and his fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Landin Brown finished with 12 points and Will Thomas finished with 11 points. Jordan Gosey finished with six rebounds, and Thomas and Brown finished with five rebounds each. Landin Brown led ETBU with five assists.

ETBU shot 42.5% from the floor, 30.0% from behind the arc, and 60.0% from the free throw line. ETBU outrebounded LETU 41-34, as they continue to lead the ASC in rebounding margin.

LETU was led by Caleb Loggins and Jeff Martin who had 17 points each. Alec Colhoff, Nate West, and Caylab Herrera had 12 points each. Loggins had seven rebounds, and Cordele Jackson had six rebounds.

ETBU will return to action against the University of Texas at Tyler at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. UT Tyler is in second place in the ASC East Division.
