MARSHALL, Texas – After playing to a 28-28 tie at halftime, East Texas Baptist University (13-8, 5-8) couldn’t keep up with LeTourneau University (17-5, 10-4) as they would fall 69-62 in men’s basketball American Southwest Conference play. ETBU was within three with under two minutes to go but couldn’t find the shot to tie or take the lead.

Both teams started off even in the first half as Will Thomas tallied four points while Davis Robinson and Jordan Grey traded threes with LETU’s Alec Colhoff and Sam Talbert. ETBU would then build themselves up to a 22-17 lead as Thomas and Jordan Gosey tallied points for ETBU to get to that margin. After nearly three minutes of scoreless ball, the Yellow Jackets answered with five straight points by Colhoff to tie the game at 22. The two teams would then trade six points as the score was tied at 28.

What would be the difference to the game was the start that LETU would put in the second half. LETU stared with a 10-6 run to go up 38-34. A three by Jay McKnight would cut the lead to 38-37. LETU would then go up by seven points at 44-37 and 46-39. ETBU did cut the lead to 49-48 as Thomas’ free throws would bring ETBU to their closest deficit in the second half. The Yellow Jackets would answer with a 12-4 run to make it 61-52. Though ETBU would cut it down to 63-60 and 65-62 with 1:44 to play, LETU would finish the game by making free throws to seal the win.

Gosey led ETBU with 17 points and six rebounds while Thomas tallied 13 points and nine rebounds. With his second rebound of the game, Thomas moved up to 24th all-time on ETBU’s list of top rebounders. LETU had four players in double figures. Caleb Loggins led with 16 points while Jeff Martin collected a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nate West also had 12 points just as Colhoff and Caylab Herrera had 11 points each.
