PINEVILLE, La. – Down by eight at halftime, the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team (13-9, 5-9) rallied to take the lead late in the game only to see Louisiana College surge back in the final two minutes to take the game away, 64-57. The game was tied up at 46 with just over four minutes to play and Louisiana College outscored ETBU, 18-11, hitting six-of-11 free throws in the final two mintues.
ETBU got off to a good start by trading baskets with LC in the early minutes of the game. It was 9-9 before LC started to take off and put together a tremendous run to build a lead. It was 30-22 at halftime in favor of the Wildcats. LC continued to build on their momentum to lead 39-29 in the second half. That was when ETBU started to fight back by going on a 13-2 run to take the lead at 42-41. LC and ETBU then had the score tied at 44. The Wildcats would then take a six point lead at 52-46 before ETBU clawed back to make it 52-50. LC would then secure the big shots to pull off with the win 64-57.
ETBU was led by Jordan Gosey, who tallied 15 points and six rebounds while Jordan Quillian had 12 points. Chris Barrett came off the bench with nine points while Landin Brown had five assists. As a team, ETBU shot the ball 58% from the field, 14.3% from the three-point line, and 35.3% from the free-throw line.
LC was led by Timothy Stokes (six assists) and Taylan Grogan, who each had 14 points. Raheem Regis tallied 11 points and was one rebound away from a double-double. LC shot the ball 41.5% from the field, 23.1% from the three-point line, and 68% from the free-throw line.
ETBU returns home this Thursday against Ozarks, which tips off at 7:30PM.
