MARSHALL, Texas – In an offensive explosion, the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team dominated from start to finish, sweeping the seasons series against the University of the Ozarks, 114-85. ETBU improves to 14-9 overall and 6-9 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks falls to 7-15 overall and 1-12 in ASC play.
ETBU had five players reach double figures in scoring led by Jordan Quillian with 16 points, Dylan Augustine had 15 points (5-6 from 3PT), Jordan Gosey had 13 points, and Landin Brown and Tyler Day had 12 points. Quillian led ETBU with seven rebounds. Brown had eight assists to pace the offense. Augustine reached 250 career made three point field goals with tonight’s performance.
ETBU got off to a great start with Dylan Augustine knocking down three three point field goal before the first media timeout and jumping out to a 19-6 lead. ETBU would stretch its biggest first half lead to 18 points twice, shooting 62.5% and knocking down seven three point field goals. The offense was not the only thing rolling as ETBU held Ozarks to 39.4% from the floor in the first half. ETBU led Ozarks 52-34 at the break.
ETBU did not slow down during the second half, as they knocked down 10 three point field goals as a team and finished with 62 total points. ETBU shot 59.4% from the floor in the second half, and 87.5 (14-16) from the free throw line. ETBU would extend their lead to 35 twice during the final half, and scored 100 points for the fifth time this season.
ETBU shot 61% from the floor, 50.0% from behind the arc, and 79.2% from the charity stripe. ETBU outrebounded Ozarks 37-27, and forced 15 turnovers. ETBU had a season high 27 assists in the contest, and led the steals battle with eight.
Ozarks had four players reach double digits in scoring, led by Josh Berard with a game high 22 points. Jace Richardson had 15 points, Pete Harber had 13 points, and Jerome Luster had 11 points. Dylan Gray had a team high seven rebounds. Ozarks shot 48.4% from the floor and 64.0% from the free throw line.
ETBU clinched the final spot in the ASC Tournament with the win and a loss by Louisiana College tonight against the University of Texas at Dallas. ETBU will play UT Dallas this Saturday for ‘Senior Day’ at 3:00 p.m. in Ornelas Gymnasium.
