RICHARDSON, Texas – Six East Texas Baptist University men’s soccer players were selected to the All American Southwest Conference teams after the programs second playoff appearance as a member of the conference and first since 1999.  ETBU had two players each on the first and second teams, one third team selection and another selected as honorable mention.

Pete Fitzsimmons and Juan Ramirez were the first team selections.  Fitzsimmons tied for the team lead in goals this season with five, including a hat trick against Howard Payne in the second to last game of the season and tied for second on the team in assists with two.  It was the second straight season on the first team for Fitzsimmons and his third all-ASC selection overall, as he was a third-team pick two years ago.  Ramirez was selected to the first team for the third year in a row after finishing the season with two goals and two assists this season.  He was also an honorable mention selection as a freshman in 2010.  Ramirez’s golden goal against Ozarks was a key in helping ETBU get to the playoffs as it gave them a crucial tiebreaker over Ozarks in seeding.

Christian Garcia and Cody Hopson were both selected to the second team.  Garcia tied with Fitzsimmons for the team lead in goals with five and also had an assist, as well as a hat trick, like Fitzsimmons, in the Howard Payne game late in the year.  This was the second all-ASC selection for Garcia, as he appeared on the third team in 2011.  Hopson is making his first appearance on an all-ASC team after he led the team in every major statistical category for goal keepers.  He set career highs in saves with 66, GAA with 1.88 and was crucial in the tie against nationally ranked UT-Dallas, when he made a single game best 13 saves, including one in the 109th minute to preserve the tie and help ETBU’s playoff chances.

Justin Adams was selected to the third team.  Adams scored his first three career goals this season for ETBU after transferring from UT-Tyler last year.  His goal against Louisiana College in the playoffs tied the game at two and gave ETBU the opportunity to win in OT.

Gustavo Vazquez was named to the honorable mention team in his first year at ETBU.  Vazquez finished the season with two goals and two assists, which tied him for second on the team.
