ABILENE, Texas – Saving their best performance for last, the East Texas Baptist University women’s cross country team will be sending two runners to the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet in Newport News, Va. on November 16th. ETBU finished fifth out of seven teams competing with 160 points, 16 behind LeTourneau for fourth.
“We had two runners qualify for regionals, and we had the most Personal Records ever,” said head coach Natalie Bach-Prather. “Everyone gave 100 percent and we left it all out on the course.”
Megan Merrill posted her third top-20 finish of the season, placing 15th with a time of 26:56.81, good for a qualification for the regionals. Shelby Sparks, the second place runner for ETBU and second regional qualifier, finished 22nd overall with her time of 27:35.87, for her fourth top-30 finish of the year.
Madison Kauffman, who was named the ASC’s Co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, finished 40th with a time of 29:28.91 and was the third ETBU runner to finish. Shelby Taylor, the fourth ETBU runner to cross the line, finished 48th and posted a time of 31:40.1.
Leslie Martinez was the fifth finisher for ETBU, placing 50th overall and posting a time of 32:26.70. Tori Turner was the final runner to cross the finish line for ETBU, finishing 60th with a time of 34:54.92.
When asked about next season, coach Bach-Prather replied: “We are trying get prepared for success next season. This is the highest the men have finished. We will stronger program next year.”
