PREVIEW: ETBU Faces Two More Tough Regional Opponents

MARSHALL, Texas – After pulling off an incredible victory over the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson last Saturday, the East Texas Baptist University women’s tennis team will have their first home matches of the season with two this weekend. ETBU will start off with Millsaps College on Friday and Austin College on Saturday. Both matches will start at 2:00 p.m.

In their last match, ETBU defeated UTD 8-1. ETBU won all three doubles matches as Kate Bramlett/Kaleigh Smith (No. 1 doubles, 9-7), Tiffany Stankiewicz/Elisa Kendall (No. 2 doubles, 8-1), and Kellie Cawthon/Ashley Schenck (No. 3 doubles, 8-2) picked up the wins to lead 3-0. ETBU then won five of six singles matches as Kate Bramlett had the biggest upset of the day when she knocked off no. 9 ranked Kathy Joseph 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 at no. 1 singles. Kendall won the no. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9, over while Mullika Seekhieo took the no. 4 match, 2-6, 7-5, 10-6. Cawthon won at no. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2 while Jabree McClaine delivered a 6-3, 6-2 win at no. 6 singles.

Bramlett was then named the ASC East Division Player of the Week for her play. It was the second week in a row that ETBU has won the East Division player of the week award as Stankiewicz won it last week.

ETBU (2-1) turns their attention to the two matches against Millsaps and Austin College. The last time ETBU took on Millsaps  it happened on March 28, 2014, when ETBU fell 9-0. ETBU’s last match against Austin College was February 15, 2013 when ETBU lost 9-0.

Friday’s match starts at 2:00 PM while Saturday’s match begins at 1:00 PM.
